Meknes
The Versailles of Morocco, an imperial city of grand gates, massive granaries, and the legendary Bab Mansour.
Meknes is one of the four Imperial cities of Morocco, located in the north. It was the capital of Morocco under the reign of Sultan Moulay Ismail, who turned it into a grand city of palaces and gardens.
Known for its relative tranquility compared to Marrakech or Fes, Meknes offers a more relaxed way to experience imperial history. The Bab Mansour gate is often cited as the most beautiful in North Africa, and the nearby granaries are a marvel of 17th-century engineering.
